
Get Involved: Special Session est.1998
Special Session is a week-long summer camp for adults (19+) with disabilities who are assisted with their everyday needs by Herman Fellows (Bethany Village Summer Staff), volunteer counselors, and support staff!
The mission of Special Session is to know Christ in all people, through ministry to and with people of all abilities. Our vision is a vibrant, loving community where all God’s children are celebrated.

Dates:
- Campers: June 1st- June 6th
- Staff: May 30th- June 6th

Volunteer Counselors: ages 15-22; assist their camper(s) by giving them the care needs they require while also participating in fun activities throughout the camp session.
Volunteer Requirements:
- Completion of “Safeguarding God’s Children” sexual-misconduct and abuse prevention online course
- Permission to conduct a criminal background check (19 and older)
- Strict adherence to all volunteer policies of Camp McDowell and The Diocese of Alabama (Covenant)
- Attendance to meetings and or training specific to an event
- A great attitude of service and sacramental leadership!

Support Staff: Clergy, Nurses, Golf Cart Drivers, Occupational Therapists, Directors; these positions do not stay in cabins, they take on supportive roles for counselors and campers to enable a smooth summer camp session (Cabin watch, Activity/Program setups and takedowns, Health Hut runs, etc.
